Microsaic Systems Appoints The Scott Partnership to Support Growth Strategy

Consultancy Appointed to Lead Strategic PR Campaign Aimed at Raising Brand Awareness and Engaging Stakeholders

Cheshire, UK (26 June 2012) - The Scott Partnership, a leading global business-to-business PR and marketing communications agency, has been appointed by Microsaic Systems to raise company and brand awareness. The agency was selected for its ethos and track-record for delivering effective, results-driven communications strategies to a number of global organisations in the life sciences sector, which was imperative to Microsaic System’s decision.

The Scott Partnership will support Microsaic System’s growth in the UK and US and increase the visibility of its innovative technology; the Microsaic 3500 MiD, the world’s first chip based mass spectrometer. A versatile and portable solution for bench chemists in medicinal chemist laboratories, it has been developed in collaboration with three major pharmaceutical companies and is simple and intuitive to use. It is 90% smaller than conventional mass spectrometers with fewer infrastructure requirements and can be configured and ready to use in one hour. The extremely robust system has a drastically reduced footprint, making it the ideal mass spectrometer for the modern laboratory.

Microsaic Systems is at a very exciting time in its development. It has revolutionised mass spectrometry by integrating key miniaturised components onto patented chip technologies called ionchip®, spraychip®, and vac-chip. The core technologies are chip-scaled versions of traditional mass spectrometry components which can be interchanged rapidly by the user, enabling greater adaptability and speed of use. The Scott Partnership will engage stakeholders around this innovation, raising awareness of and demand for the technology.

“The Scott Partnership has a proven track record for delivering successful results-driven communications campaigns in the life sciences markets globally and they will be able to raise awareness of the world’s first chip-based mass spectrometer and support our continuing growth,” said Professor Eric Yeatman, Acting CEO of Microsaic Systems. “We want to spread the message that mass spectrometry is now more accessible to more laboratories than ever before.”

Kath Darlington, CEO at The Scott Partnership, adds: “Our expertise and specialist knowledge of the industry will enable us to provide a PR campaign that raises awareness of Microsaic’s innovative technologies and strengthens its position in the marketplace as an industry leader. Microsaic is a key account win for the business in 2012 and will provide an excellent complement to our existing clients.”

This latest addition to The Scott Partnership’s client portfolio is a further step in the company’s on-going expansion, strengthening its customer base. Located near Manchester, UK, it was set up in 1996 as a specialist business-to-business PR consultancy for scientific and technology industries. Due to its expertise, specialisation and commitment to building strong and long-lasting relationships with clients and media, it has become one of the leading life sciences and technology communications consultancies with clients in the US, UK, mainland Europe and Asia.

About Microsaic Systems plc

Microsaic Systems plc is a high technology company developing and marketing next generation mass spectrometry (MS) instruments for the analysis of gaseous, liquid and solid samples. Microsaic has successfully miniaturised mass spectrometry by integrating the key MS components onto patented chip technologies called ionchip®, spraychip® and vac-chip. Microsaic’s MS products retain the speed and sensitivity of larger, conventional MS systems but are substantially smaller, lighter, consume less energy and have lower running costs. The Company’s first product, the Microsaic 3500 MiD®, was launched in January 2011 and is the world’s smallest MS system.

Microsaic Systems plc was established in 2001 to develop miniaturized MS instruments based on Micro-Electrical-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) originating at the highly regarded Optical and Semiconductor Devices Group at Imperial College London. Microsaic has subsequently established a large portfolio of 88 patents, of which 36 are granted. The Company has been based at headquarters in Woking, UK since September 2004 and was admitted to AIM, a market of the London Stock Exchange, in April 2011 (ticker: MSYS).

A Day at the Races

Friday 9th September was the first decent day, weather wise, that we had seen in a while. Perfect timing as it was the day of The Scott Partnership’s trip to the Chester Races. Our southern partners Kapler, along with our sister company Scott Brothers Ltd. came along for the day which made it a big day out. After an excited morning at work, we piled onto the coach at lunchtime clutching our copies of the daily Racing Post in hope of winning some money. On the coach we were given our county concourse badges for admission which allowed us access to more of the course than most other ticket options. We were able to see the Paddocks Parade Ring and the Winners Enclosure, as well as having access to fine dining, various bars and an exclusive champagne bar. A pretty good deal I’d say!

Hello, The Scott Partnership!

I’m Lucy and I am currently in my third week of work at The Scott Partnership.  I’m here for a year on an internship after graduating in Public Relations from the University of Central Lancashire, Preston.

Although I am still getting used to setting my alarm for 7am every morning, I have to say that I am really enjoying adapting to working life.  The team here have made fitting in a breeze and have been extremely accommodating and willing to help.  I decided to take part in an internship as I feel they are a great way to get into the industry you want to be in and learn loads of useful stuff along the way.  After all, experience is one of the most essential attributes which employers in the PR industry look for.

With parts of experience within the industry here and there I can’t pretend to be an expert, However, my first few weeks here have taught me a considerable amount about how PR agencies operate, most of which I was not told in my 3 years at university! Everything from looking for and clipping coverage, posting press releases online, reaching out to editors, writing articles, researching for new clients, proof reading articles and keeping up with the company’s social media sites are included in my day to day responsibilities. That rains on whoever said interns only make the tea and coffee!

The rate in which the company is growing at a time of economic downturn makes me proud to have secured an internship here and to be able to work with a friendly, professional and experienced team. I know this year will teach me a lot and give me the experience and knowledge I need to fulfil a career within the PR industry.  The only downside is the fact I have to go for longer runs every weekend to burn off all the tea and biscuits we consume in the week- putting on a stone wasn’t in the job description!

Goodbye Internship

By Adam Gron, Public Relations Intern, The Scott Partnership

Right… There is no easy way to start with this reflective post so I’ll just do it: big thanks to all of you!

A few things I’ve learned during this crazy journey through the unexplored shores of PR practice at The Scott Partnership:

One: Be enthusiastic.

Two: If you are unsure about something you have to do (or feel totally lost like me during my first days) ask questions! Nothing questioned, nothing learned!

And three: Respect the people you work with. They’re the people that motivate and inspire you. At The Scott Partnership there is something about the team that has always encouraged me to run faster, work harder and face down my fears when I had to move out of the comfort zone. And that is, without doubt, the best way to learn.

But first, a little bit of background…

Good Morning, The Scott Partnership?

Hello! My name is Rebecca and I am excited to say that I am the new addition to The Scott Partnership PR agency team.

Before joining The Scott Partnership I was a French and Spanish student at Lancaster University. Within four days of getting my results I had transformed from a nocturnal fancy dress connoisseuse (see, my French still comes in handy) to a 9-5 professional. I can’t say that I don’t miss hour-long Facebook stalking sessions and knowing 6am as bedtime rather than wake-up time but my first two weeks have been absolutely brilliant.

If someone had stopped me prior to this fortnight and asked what coverage was, what function a press release serves, or even what the position “Account Executive” entailed I would have just looked back at them blankly. Thanks to everyone at TSP being so friendly, welcoming and eager to help I would now be able to confidently answer each of those questions (and maybe even a few more!).

I won’t try and pretend that I am not still petrified of the phone, don’t ask about a million questions per hour and don’t have mild palpitations when I hear the sentence “write a PR on mass spectrometry”. However, the induction gave me a thorough understanding of day-to-day PR life. Emailing editors, clipping coverage, writing PRs, liaising with clients, amending articles are all a huge part of my week.  I have been introduced to a few of the client accounts in the pharmaceutical and drug discovery sectors that I will be working on and have been shown the vast network that requires sat-nav to navigate successfully at first. As a result I am really starting to get a feel for what we are all about: professionalism and dedication to service.

So far, so good. With the company’s ambitious strategy and recent new client wins it is a really exciting time to have started at TSP and besides, I really love that little impressed look that people do when I tell them I work in PR.

One of the most important things I have learnt since being at TSP? Always remember dress-down Friday, or you spend the whole day feeling like the one child that came to school in shirt, tie and blazer on non-uniform day.

Learn “How to manage communications in Asia” at ABCA Conference

Jacky Cheng from The Scott Partnership's China office is chairman of Asia Business Communications Association (ABCA) – a non-profit organization and a social network of communicators. It runs monthly salons, and occasionally runs training programs, conferences.

As more and more companies have located their Asia-Pacific headquarters in China, we see more communicators are taking Asia-Pacific responsibilities now, but it is also difficult for them to understand different cultures in the wide Asia region. So ABCA is organizing a conference on June 3rd to talk about “How to manage communications in Asia”, with confirmed speakers from key countries across Asia including Japan, Korea, India, Singapore, Vietnam (and TBC one more speaker from Australia/New Zealand). All of the speakers are very senior and very experienced in communication industry and will talk about the difference of running communication programs in their countries/regions. This will be an excellent opportunity for companies to meet with experts from those countries to have first-hand information about the way of running communication programs in Asia.
