Thermo Fisher Scientific GC/MS and LC/MS Instrumentation Selected by the Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera) to Ensure Food Safety

SAN JOSE, California (June 21, 2011) – Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that the Food and Environment Research Agency (Fera), an executive agency of the UK Government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), has selected Thermo Scientific GC-MS and LC-MS systems for accurate, rapid and cost-efficient analysis of food products.

Fera currently manages more than 600 research projects, analyzing more than 50,000 plant and food samples a year. It is the National Reference Laboratory for chemicals in food such as mycotoxins, polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chemicals from food contact materials, dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in food and feed and some pesticides and veterinary drugs. The agency is now using the Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum GC-MS/MS and Exactive high-performance benchtop LC-MS systems to analyze food, feed, water and air samples for potential contamination. ITT Analytics launches new Bellingham + Stanley digital hand-held refractometer at National Restaurant Association Show

CHICAGO, IL., May 23, 2011 — ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT) announces the introduction of the Bellingham + Stanley OPTi hand-held refractometer for Brix analysis of beverages and foodstuffs at the National Restaurant Show (NRA) 2011. The OPTi hand-held refractometer is a portable, compact measurement device ideal for the measurement of dissolved solids by cellar services and dispense maintenance engineers in food and beverage retail outlets. Thermo Fisher Scientific Opens POPs Center of Excellence for Food Safety and Environmental Analysis

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced the opening of its Center of Excellence for persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Staffed with experts in POPs analysis, the new center will support laboratories that research, measure and monitor dioxins and other POPs found in food and the environment. The center provides access to highly productive, value-added methods for identifying some of the most difficult to detect POPs. The first method developed by the center provides an integrated workflow that includes instruments, software and consumables used in screening to confirmation. The workflow will be available within Thermo Scientific booth 2835 during Pittcon 2011, being held March 13-18, in Atlanta.
